Square #8: The Cat in the Hat

Hi Everyone!

The next square in the Dr. Seuss Crochet Along (I just realized I’ve been spelling it completely wrong all this time. lol) is the Cat in the Hat.

I took a break from weaving in the ends because I felt like I’ve been crocheting this for what seems to be an eternity and I have not finished anything! Yes, I have a bunch of beautiful squares but there still isn’t a completed project and I was starting to feel a bit burnt out! I will show off what I worked on while I took that little break! I am so in love with it! But back to this Crochet Along!

When I design these 30×31 squares I do not take existing images and just turn them into graphs… I change the color of each square to make the lines and curves that you see, the same as if you were to take graph paper and color in the squares. The only difference is that I can zoom in and out of excel!

I had a serious issue to deal with when I was designing this square because the Cat is white, the brim on his hat is white and I didn’t want the details to get lost! I created various options and this is the final product! I’m very happy with the way he turned out!

After crocheting so many squares I’ve learned a few tricks that made crocheting this one a bit easier for me but when it came time to weave in the ends I had to make sure those details that I tried so hard to keep while designing it were not lost in the crochet square especially with the ear! I am super happy with him and I hope you like him as much as I do too!

The Graph for The Cat in the Hat is 31×30 squares. I made mine in a HDC stitch using an I hook.

The colors I used for this square are Caron Simply Soft: N= White   L= Black   P= Soft Grey Heather   @= Charcoal Heather   D= Red   E= Autumn Red   *= Ocean

As previously mentioned… The  will pattern need to be decoded. Each character represents a block and a color. Odd rows are read from Left to Right and Even rows are read from Right to Left on the pattern. Please decode your pattern before you start crocheting so that you have an accurate pattern.

All the patterns in this Crochet Along have TONS of color changes. Take your time when you are making them and refer to your graph as often as possible so that you know you are not making mistakes.  If the crocheted piece you are working on does not look like the area of the graph you are in it is possible you may have missed something…
